BPPV

DO YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS?

Dizziness when you sit up or lay down?

Does it feel like the room is spinning even when you are sitting still?

Do you have difficulty in a car with looking down or out the back window?

Does rolling over in bed make your head “swim” and make the room “spin”?

If so, see your doctor immediately and ask if you may have the following condition?

BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO?

This condition ( abbreviated BPPV) is one in which the inner ear may have calcium crystals or blockages (See Figure Above) which trigger the brain into symptoms of dizziness or vertigo. This happens when you change the position of your head in relation to space.

The good news is this condition is very treatable by our Physical Therapists who specialize in this area. Aspen Rehabilitation provides such treatment and has a very high success rate.

HOW IS IT TREATED?

We use specialized maneuvers (Figure Below) for repositioning the head and body to dislodge the blockages and show you exercises to perform at home to keep the blockages clear. This usually resolves the symptoms even if re occurrences happen in the future.

Even if your cause of falls and imbalance is not BPPV related, our Physical Therapists can evaluate if muscle weaknesses, neurological problems, or other disorders may be the cause of your falls and prescribe the appropriate type of treatment program. This is especially important in the elderly where a fall can lead to hip fractures and other serious injuries.

Don’t wait for a FALL OR INJURY to occur!

Aspen Rehabilitation offers a comprehensive DIZZINESS, BALANCE, AND FALLS Rehab Program for patients suffering from dizziness and balance related disorders.
